Malaysia Airlines (MAS) is running street-style entertainment with the theme “It’s Showtime! With MAS” to delight passengers at 11 locations at the KL International Airport (KLIA) until Dec 31.

In a statement, MAS said the roaming street entertainers would offer children and parents alike memorable experiences before they go for their holidays. The performances include mesmerising encounters with a magician and a living statue as well as opportunities to interact with favourites like “Captain America” and “Willy Wonka”, it said.

“All performers will appear in two sessions: afternoon at 1 pm until 4 pm and evening, 6 pm until 9 pm, twice a week on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. “Showtime by MAS aims to make travelling a memorable and more enjoyable airport experience for families during the school break and festive seasons,” it said.

Malaysia Airlines’ (MAS) announced their participation in the third largest global airline group, oneworld. The move marks a significant development for the carrier at a time when global carriers are hoping to extend their reach to tap the growth in Asia Pacific.

For records, the biggest global airline alliance is StarAlliance in which Singapore Airlines is a member. The other alliance is Skyteam.

With the latest move, MAS is hoping to gain access to the alliance’s global network which covers almost 950 destinations in 150 countries.

MAS will be the 15th member of oneworld. Other than British Airways and Qantas, the other members are Cathay Pacific, Royal Jordanian, American Airlines, Japan Airlines, Finnair, LAN Argentina, Malev Hungarian, Iberia, Mexicana, and S70 Airlines. India’s Kingfisher and AirBerlin will be members after their 18-month process period.

For MAS Enrich frequent flyer members will be able to earn and redeem rewards on oneworld’s carriers and vice versa.

The airline yesterday also signed an agreement via its travel and tour arm, MASHolidays, to become a member of Universal Air Travel Plan (UTAP) to provide travellers with another payment option for their ticketing with MAS. “UTAP is the card of choice for corporate travellers and MAS can now accelerate its corporate market share growth by using this leading payment system.

Malaysia Airlines has launched its new A330-300 aircraft today, amidst a ceremonious event at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

The occasion was graced by Minister of Transport, Y.B. Dato’ Seri Kong Cho Ha. The reception marked another historical milestone for the airline.

Starting with a launch flight MH8888 from KLIA, guests were taken for a short journey to experience the new interiors and features of the aircraft. Upon arrival, the traditional water salute welcomed the latest aircraft to the Malaysia Airlines fleet, followed by a mixed drum ensemble. An eclectic dance performance symbolised the potpourri of cultures, as the passengers disembarked from the aircraft.

Malaysia Airlines’ Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin said, “We are delighted to launch our first A330-300 five months after the delivery of the new B737-800 in November. These aircrafts will serve the growing markets of South Asia, China, North Asia and Australia.”

It is the second fleet after the B737-800 to sport the dynamic livery with red and blue lines representing the Malaysia Airlines’ corporate colours.

Minister of Transport, YB Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said, “Malaysia Airlines has made another achievement in Malaysia’s aviation industry. Malaysia Airlines’ move to introduce this fleet is seen as an effort to promote more travel and business opportunities for both Malaysians and foreigners.”

The enhanced A330-300 has a total capacity of 283 seats, 36 seats in Business class and 247 seats in Economy class. All seats are equipped with AC power supply and USB port for laptops and electronic equipment. The new interiors are installed with mood lighting in all cabins and spacious overhead baggage compartments.

To provide enhanced experience and comfort, the sophisticated features and interiors of the new A330-300 Business Class cabin offer comfortable angled lie flat seats, a fold-out privacy divider and six-way adjustable headrest, among others, presenting the traveller with both a mini office, as well as a place to unwind.

Egypt protests worsen ! The government has taken few action to evacuate Malaysian students in Cairo to Jeddah. AirAsia is sending an Airbus A320 aircraft to help evacuate Malaysian students in Cairo to Jeddah.

Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said the AirAsia aircraft, which would depart from Malaysia Wednesday afternoon, could accommodate 249 passengers. Speaking at a press conference here, he advised parents with children in Egypt not to worry as the Government was doing its best to protect Malaysians there.

“The Government is also working closely with the Indonesian and Bruneian governments in the evacuation process. “For example, Garuda is already at Cairo airport and if they have extra seats, they could take in the Malaysians stranded at the airport,” he added.

There are 11,000 Malaysian students in Egypt.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Airlines (MAS) managing director and chief executive officer Tengku Datuk Seri Azmil Zahruddin said a MAS aircraft would leave for Cairo Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the operation to evacuate Malaysian students stranded in Egypt was expected to take four days.He said 30 personnel from the Armed Forces and a further 30 from other government agencies including Wisma Putra would be involved in the evacuation operation.

Zahid also called on non-governmental organisations to assist the Government in the evacuation operation. He also said the Saudi Arabian government has issued temporary visas for the students leaving for Jeddah. “They will be placed at the Tabung Haji complex in Jeddah as a temporary measure,” he added.
